Welcome to Briar City.

Briar City is Sean Francis: an Irish songwriter, guitarist and producer making alternative pop made to be played full volume and sung along to.

As a founding member and songwriter of Dublin band Crown The King, Sean built a catalogue that resonated with fans and built a strong community around the band. Rock Sound magazine singled out his "honest songwriting that's draped in self-reflection", a fair summary of someone who has never been good at leaving things unsaid. Briar City is what happens when there's nobody left to talk him out of it.

Working as a solo artist has allowed Sean to follow ideas wherever they lead, musically and lyrically, and the result reaches well past where he started: relationships and social media, reality television and religion, identity and what it actually feels like to live in a culture running on outrage and screens.

The sound has grown outward with the subject matter. The early-2000s alternative records he grew up on are still audible in the choruses, but Briar City allows Sean to pull from his eclectic taste with often unexpected elements and a pop sensibility that comes from years of nerding out over contemporary music.
